Alford Silver Band will be holding its annual book sale over the coming spring bank holiday weekend. And with the economy as it is, book lovers are sure to find some bargains.
The band’s rehearsal centre, located on the far side of the car park at the rear of the Alford Foodstore (Co-Op) will be filled with a huge selection of good condition, second-hand books, CDs, DVDs and videos, all at bargain prices. The centre will be open between 9.30 am and 3.30 pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 28th, 29th and 30th May and will be staffed by volunteer members of the band.
Band secretary Jane Taylor said, “the annual book sale is an important source of income for the band and helps us provide expert tuition to the many youngsters who form our training section, and who otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to learn a musical instrument. But it’s also a popular event for the community and we have a huge variety and number of books to choose from, all very reasonably priced as they have been donated to us.”
The town is bound to be busy over the weekend with the annual craft fare. But a short stroll down from the Manor House and past St Wilfrid’s Church, to get behind the Co-Op will be worthwhile to anyone looking for a good read at a small price.
