Alford Silver Band has instituted a new scheme to recognise and thank those who are not members of the Band, but who provide valuable support, either through financial sponsorship, or through giving freely of their time to the Band’s benefit.
The first two Friends of Alford Silver Band were presented with their certificates of recognition by Band Chairman, Mike Green on 29th July.
Gemma Walton (pictured left) and Eleanor Monk both work at the Louth office of Lincolnshire Co-operative Society Funeral Services, where Gemma is a Funeral Director, and Eleanor a Funeral Services Operative.
“A number of the Louth office staff voluntarily assisted the Band at a concert in Spilsby in 2022 as part of the Co-op’s community engagement programme,” said Band Chairman, Mike Green. “Gemma and Eleanor must have enjoyed themselves, because on their own volition, they have volunteered to come and help us at a number of subsequent concerts.
There is always a lot of work to do at a concert, setting the band up before the start and clearing away at the end, taking money on the door, helping with the raffle, and serving the refreshments to the audience in the interval. Having Gemma and Eleanor help out means that the Band members can concentrate on what we do best – giving a good performance.
We wanted to recognise that Gemma and Eleanor are two true Friends of the Band, and we hope that they will continue their association with us for many years to come”
