Band Kicks Off 2011 Back at Chapel

Alford Silver Band will start its 2011 programme with a concert in Chapel St Leonards Village Hall on THURSDAY 10th February with the performance starting at 7.30 pm.

The band has gained increasing popularity in the last few years, nowhere more so than in Chapel.

“Chapel St Leonards has become very much of a second home for us,” said band chairman Martin Briggs. “We are scheduled to perform four concerts in the Village Hall this year and will be playing at the Carnival in July as well as a number of other events.

“The Village Hall is an excellent venue and we love playing there,” he continued. “The acoustics are great for a silver band and the crowd is always appreciative.”

The schedule of concerts provides a bit of a headache for musical director Steve Walker who has to ensure that a fresh programme is prepared for each performance. Fortunately, the band has a large and varied programme from which he can choose.

The programme for 10th February will feature a virtuoso solo by the band’s gifted young principal cornet, Josh Wilkinson.

Tickets for the concert are extremely reasonably priced at just £4 and can be obtained on the door.

Alternatively, tickets can be purchased from the Village Hall committee in advance by telephoning Barry on 01754 871816.
