Band’s Temporary Close Down

The ever popular Alford Silver Band has reacted responsibly to the Government’s call for the avoidance of non-essential contact between people by closing for the next couple of months.

The band immediately closed its doors in response to the emergency.

“As much as we love performing, we have to recognise that these are very difficult and worrying times for all of society,” said the chairman of the band, Mike Green.

“In order to protect both our audiences and our own players, we have suspended all band activity until at least the end of May. That means the band will cease to meet either to rehearse or to perform, and we have also suspended our highly regarded training programme.”

Following discussions with event organisers who had booked the band, live performances scheduled for April and May have been cancelled.

The cancellations include the band’s intended Open Day and its free Spring concert for the town that had been planned for late April.

“Cancellation of the Spring concert is of course disappointing,” continued Mike. “Musical director Josh Wilkinson had put together an exciting programme which we know would have delighted our audience. However, we hope to revive that programme when the situation with the coronavirus permits a relaxation on mass gatherings. We will use it as a celebration of the end of the crisis – something for everyone to look forward to.

‘In the meantime, we will of course comply with Government advice so that we can play our part responsibly in beating this virus. To that end, we will continue to review our engagements beyond May on a month by month basis, and will decide appropriately in conjunction with event organisers whether or not they should go ahead.”

Band members are being encouraged to keep practising in their own homes so that when the band is able to resume its activities, it will be back up and running with minimal delay.

The band will consider taking future bookings on a provisional basis, for confirmation when the situation with the pandemic so permits. Enquiries should be made to the band secretary, Jane Taylor on 01507 466330, or via
